Tonight we are focusing on the “Lord’s prayer” and thanks to a friend of mine who shared these thoughts with me earlier in the week on the Lord’s prayer, very thought provoking and helpful to remember the blessings and responsibilites that come as we pray the Lord’s prayer together as those united to Christ through faith. PLEASE DO LISTEN TO THE SONG AT THE END WHICH IS BASED ON THE LORD’S PRAYER!
The Lord’s Prayer is Gospel – Praying in Union with Jesus Christ the Son of God
- Our Father – I come with Jesus to His Father as my Father, with all the love acceptance, delight, Joy and rights of Sonship that you have given to Him.
- In Heaven – My dear Abba, I come to you, swept up by your Spirit into the unseen spiritual world where you dwell and where I have already ascended with Christ.
- Hallowed be your Name – As your beloved son, like Jesus, I want you, not myself to be set apart as holy & to be worshipped as the only true and living God (we are tempted daily to put ourselves 1st not God). You loving Father are beautiful in your holiness please enable me by your Spirit to delight to have you as my centre, my treasure, my Number 1.
- Your Kingdom Come – As your beloved son, like Jesus, I submit to you as the King who controls everything. I repent of trying to live as my own king & be in control of my life as Number 1.
- Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven – As your son, like Jesus, I want what you want, do & say. I confess I am often grumpy because I think I’m the boss and I’m not getting what I want. I repent of wanting my own way, help me see the blessing and Joy that comes to those who humbly submit to your word, your will, and your ways for my life.
- Give us this day our daily bread – I come in utter dependence on you as the giver of all. I know you are a fountain of love. So as your beloved son, I ask you to graciously provide all I need physically and spiritually to love you and others today. I pray delighting in the fact that you my Abba own and control everything and I rejoice that you know exactly what I need before I ask.
- Forgive us our sin as we forgive those who sin against us – I confess my sin against you Father, in word, deed, thought and desire. I repent of specific heart idols which my foolish & proud heart has loved more than you. I shelter under the cross and trust in Jesus’ death & righteousness as mine before you. In my heart I forgive specific others as you have forgiven me with undeserved mercy in Christ. I ask for your Spirit to help me love my enemies as Christ has loved me.
- Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil – I come knowing that I am in a love story and a war story. Through the death and resurrection of Christ, I ask you to crush the lying deceitful power of the world, my flesh and the devil. Give me faith in your promises and enable me to see and mortify sin in my life by resisting and repenting in the power of your Spirit.
- I ask in Jesus name because I am one with Him and all that He has done is mine. Jesus is my life and I want to be like Him. Father, like you, I only want what most glorifies your beloved Son. Amen
Please continue to pray for:
- Give thanks for the great weather, for our farmers, and for all working in the food industry, pray for wisdom for those who make decisions at top level and for safety around the farm!
- Those who have been bereaved recently that they will know Christ’s presence and comfort.
- Our Sunday online service as we continue to think about preparing for Jesus second coming.
- Continue to remember our families and for children and grandparents during this difficult time!
- Continue to pray for those who are most vulnerable within society and within our congregation and continue to look for ways to spur one another on towards love and good deeds. It continue to be a blessing to hear stories of people being blessed by others thoughtfulness.
- Pray for those who have come to faith amidst the lockdown that they would grow in their faith and stand firm against the world the devil and the flesh.
- For wisdom for committee meeting this Friday night through a phone conference to consider issues in relation to finance & the upkeep of the church.
